They were running out of time. They really needed to go. The nurse was keeping Dr. Yale a little too long for Ryan’s comfort. To pass the time that they didn’t have, Ryan stared at a bulletin board that advertised local businesses. He zeroed in on one that said sex phone operator. They were looking for psychics too who must have talent. For the first time in his life, he felt as though he had a purpose. He felt as though he had a goal to obtain.

Before he met Tavek, he didn’t care about anything. He did his job, he went home and he got back up and did it the next day. He finally met someone he really truly cared about and the thought of losing him made his heart lurch. He wanted to marry Tavek. He didn’t know how it would work, but he knew he could make it happen if he wanted to. Ryan paced the hallway. He wanted to get going. Dr. Yale tried backing down the hallway but with each step he made, Jules followed him down the hallway as though she were stalking him. “Did Brandon tell you that we’re cousins?”

“Second only.”

“Not even really cousins then, eh?” Ryan said.

Jules laughed. She was stalling. Why was she stalling them? Ryan had a bad feeling about this, but he didn’t know how to get Brandon’s attention to get going. So, he just decided to be rude. “I’d love to stay and chat, but we need to get going.”

“Oh, okay.” Jules bit her lip. “It was good seeing you, Brandon.”

Jules headed down the hallway giving them a nervous backward glanced as she went. She was reaching for her cell phone as she moved.

“Thanks for that,” Brandon said.

“No problem. We don’t have much time to waste,” Ryan said.

“Let’s pick up the guys and get back to Tarik.”

They rushed to the BMW and tossed the bags of supplies in the trunk. They sped off to the store where they had left Kevin and Jaxon hours before. A sense of urgency pushed through his body as they sped through the city. They pulled up to the shopping center and found the guys waiting in a coffee shop. They came out when they saw them pull up. Yale popped the trunk and they piled all the supplies into the back. Jaxon and Kevin jumped into the back seat.

“Yo, you seem in a big damn hurry to get back?” Jaxon asked.

“Yeah, aren’t you guys?” Brandon asked.

“It’s nice to be back even for a little while. Hey, guess what we got everyone…burners. This way we can get in touch with each other while we’re on Earth.”

“Brilliant,” Yale said.

Kevin passed out cell phones. “They’re all set up and ready to go.”

Ryan couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong as he took the phone. Like really wrong. The kind of wrong that had the hair on the back of his neck standing on end. “We need to hurry.”

There were times in Ryan’s life where he felt like he had all the time in the world.
